Descent of Shadows Trilogy

High Fantasy Adventure (Middle Grade)

The Descent of Shadows trilogy: A high fantasy adventure for readers ages 9-12 who like the feel of a big kid fantasy tale, or for any reader who would enjoy an exciting coming of age journey rife with military trials, mysterious magic, and the strength of our common bonds.

The author, Coloradan Ryanne Glenn, has been open about her struggles with depression, and while the books are enjoyed by anyone without reading into these themes, Anna’s story provides the light of hope for readers who may themselves struggle with their own wraiths. It reminds us that together, we are strong, and that there is no magic like our kindness.

Book One: Descent of Shadows

At the heart of her family’s war against the wraith king, Anna makes the only decision she can—to fight back.

Humans have always called the land of Istamba home, yet Roland, King of the Wraiths, is intent on claiming it for himself. When Fort Lieay is attacked, thirteen-year-old Anna Lieay is the only survivor. Distraught from the death of her parents, she makes the dangerous journey to the Sanctuary, the last free human settlement. There, she vows to join the army, despite her age, to help save her home from the wraiths and restore peace to humanity.

Book Two: Ruins of Light

As a new army of shadowy wraiths attacks her home, Anna must abandon her secluded life—and again face war.

Dark magic spreads across Istamba as a stronger incarnation of wraiths awaken to their powers, led by a new Wraith King even more determined to conquer what Roland did not. Anna, who had hoped never to see war again, leaves her peaceful village life and returns to the battlefield. With her friends at her side, she remains intent to protect humanity from the wraiths’ magic. But this time, the light may not be strong enough to stop the darkness.

Book Three: Break of Darkness

Torn from the promise of a new life, Anna must return to the home that she left—to defeat the wraiths for good.

Darkness is consuming Istamba. After years of fighting the wraiths, Anna finally leaves her broken homeland, hoping to forget her memories of the war. Yet the shadows whisper, and Anna learns the Wraith King Ramiere intends to perform an ancient ritual to destroy humanity. With the final battle looming, Anna tries to fight the demons of her past and push to a brighter future while knowing she may instead become the darkness she’s always fought.

K.J. Quint

K.J. Quint Photo

K.J. Quint believes everyone has a story to tell. Quint was born and raised in Woodbridge, Virginia, and has always had a passion for writing tales of adventure, and particularly: humor. Humor is his weapon to conquer life’s challenges. He loves a funny story, the sort you can get lost in. He views laughter as essential to life. Not just because something is funny, but just to express joy about life. We all go through trials and challenges, but laughter lets you enjoy life that much more. It gives you that wonderful, big feeling, you can only get through loving life, no matter what comes your way.

K.J. loves the aesthetic qualities of writing – the big picture created by big ideas and a boundless imagination, like peering out at the broad horizon of our beautiful world. He’s especially inspired by his late grandfather, who despite his own high standards, thought K.J. had a real skill, and bragged about him in private to his friends. K.J. loves to learn, loves music and dance and movies, loves to study history, and loves to find answers where other people see questions. He strives to see the world from different perspectives, even if to better understand his own.

In addition to a passion for making others smile, K.J. also has an eighty pound lapdog. Because, just like writing fantasy, there are no limits on your dreams. Or the potential for your adventures.
